Children learn with provision of sufficient scaffolding when needed, shared, grouped, individual reading and through reading aloud (Winch et al. 2010). Through these activities according to Duke and Pearson (2002) readers practice and actively engage in reading, word decoding, using letter sound awareness and drawing on prior knowledge which ultimately enables them to be independent readers and a monitor of their own comprehension.
