Reading requires adequate decoding and word recognitions skills which are indispensable for good comprehension (Winch et al, 2012). However, not only precise word decoding, but also the aptitude of automated and speedy word decoding is needed for fluent reading with understanding, which is associated with reading comprehension (Rasinski, Honman & Biggs, 2009).

Fluency as a significant element in effective reading is also acknowledged by Scull (2012) and he linked poor comprehension with the weak word reading skills. Hill (2012) expound sturdy lexicon as an essential element to develop early literacy learning and to make reading automatic and fast. More than 90% of children with problem with comprehension or making meaning of the text experience lack of fluency in reading which is considered a major shortfall than word decoding skills (Rasinski et al, 2009). Such concern and issue effecting children’s’ ability to comprehend highlight the needs of explicit instructions and repeated readings which according to Rasinski et al. (2009) assure attainment of fluency in reading in young and struggling readers.
