What Is reading comprehension
Comprehension is the not merely understanding and interpretation of what is read, rather it is the reader’s active practice of crafting a description of text in the mind (Konza, 2011).
- Comprehension is a process of responding, interpreting, analysing and evaluating the ideas in text (The NSW Department of Education and Training, (2010).
- Comprehension is a premeditated and thoughtful process between reader and text (The National Reading Panel, 2000 (as cited in NSW Department of Education and Training, 2010).
- Rathvon, 2004 (as cited in Ockaly, 2011) delineated reading comprehension as an ability to derive meaning
from text.
